The most commonly used paper-plastic cup is a paper-plastic cup with a layer of paper on the outside and a layer of coated paper on the inside, which is an inner polyethylene plastic film. Although the outer layer is paper, the inner layer of plastic film touches the food. Therefore, whether this kind of cup is defined as a paper cup or a plastic cup is controversial. In terms of testing, both paper and plastic quality are tested.

Without wax, people may feel that paper-plastic cups are safe. In fact, it has the most risk factors. The hygienic hazard of the outer paper is very prominent. If the outer layer contains water, mold will form. If the paper cups are stacked together, mold on the outside will inevitably contaminate the inside. When using a paper cup, be sure to check whether it becomes damp or moldy. Secondly, the ink printed on the outer layer has a strong irritating smell, which is generally the smell of the ink. The smell is probably not up to standard. Many ink components contain benzene and toluene. Benzene is a recognized carcinogen. Non-benzene inks are being used in the United States, Japan and other countries, and benzene-containing inks are still being used in my country.

Some paper cups may be made of waste paper. In order to make paper cups look whiter, manufacturers use bleaching agents during production. Some manufacturers may also use phosphors to increase whiteness. According to national regulations, phosphors are not allowed in food paper. Therefore, the whiter the paper cup, the less safe it is.

The plastic film on the inner side, if it is food-grade plastic, meets national requirements. If industrial plastic is used, in order to increase the toughness and rigidity of the cup, a plasticizer will be added to the paper cup. If the additive amount is too large or illegal plasticizers are used, the sanitary condition is difficult to guarantee. It is recommended that disposable paper cups should be used sparingly and scientifically. Paper cups of the same color should be filled with hot drinks, and they will become hard when exposed to heat. Plastic cups become hard when cold, so cold drinks are better. Paper-plastic cups cannot be filled with oily things, oil can penetrate plastics; because phosphors and inks are highly permeable, they will contaminate food, so try not to heat the instant noodle carton in a microwave oven.
